Meta description
One check, stated three ways: what we measure, what would make it wrong, and how to confirm it yourself.
What this measures
The <meta name="description"> value: presence and length. It never falls back to og:description, because the two tags do different jobs.
Where this check can be wrong
Google rewrites the snippet for most queries regardless of what you wrote, so a missing description is not a ranking penalty — it is lost control of the sentence people read.
Verify it without taking our word for it
curl -s https://your.site | grep -i 'name="description"'. Then search site:yourdomain.com in Google and look at which sentences it chose.
