How to Submit Your Indie Product to Startup Directories: A Checklist
Prepare a clear product listing, the right images and links, and a simple tracking sheet before submitting your indie product to directories.
Choose relevant directories before filling out forms
Start with a short list of places whose audience could use your product. A focused developer-tools directory is a better fit for a developer tool than a broad list that accepts every kind of website. Check that the site is active, that its submission rules are visible, and that the listing page will help a person understand the product.
Treat a listing as a distribution experiment, not a promise of search rankings. Google recommends qualifying paid links with sponsored or nofollow, and user-submitted links may use ugc or nofollow. Do not choose a directory solely because someone promises a followed link.

Prepare one accurate product profile
Write down the product facts once, then tailor the wording to each directory's audience and character limits. Keep a short pitch focused on the user and the job the product does. A clear, specific description is more useful than repeating a row of SEO phrases.
| Prepare | What to check before submission |
|---|---|
| Core details | Product name, canonical website URL, short pitch, and a category that fits the actual product. |
| Longer context | A fuller description, pricing or free-plan details, and documentation or support links when available. |
| Visuals | A square logo that remains legible at small sizes, plus a current product screenshot if the directory accepts one. |
| Social proof | Only official social, community, GitHub, or documentation links that you control and still maintain. |
Check the destination and every claim
Open the product URL in a private browser window and make sure it reaches the intended public page. Check spelling, pricing, feature availability, and any launch-date or customer claims. If a directory asks for a badge or backlink, read whether it is optional, what the link attributes are, and whether payment changes them. Never describe a listing as guaranteed to rank or be indexed.
Keep an editable source of truth for your product name, one-line description, categories, image files, and current links. This makes later edits consistent without pasting stale copy into every submission form.
Know what Launcholio asks for
Launcholio requires a product name, website URL, short description, and category. You can also add a longer description, tags, a screenshot, social and documentation links, and a logo URL or uploaded logo. If you do not supply a logo, the site attempts to use the website icon.
You can fill the form before signing in; sign-in is required when you publish, and the draft is kept through that step. The Free plan allows one active product. A listing becomes public when submitted, while administrators can later place a listing on hold or remove it if it violates the terms. A badge is optional. Free listings without a verified badge use nofollow; paid listing links use sponsored and nofollow. Those attributes describe the links, not a ranking or traffic guarantee.

Track outcomes after the listing goes live
Save the submission date, directory, listing URL, review status, and any fee or link terms. Then watch referral visits and meaningful actions such as sign-ups or demo requests. A live listing is not automatically valuable; keep the ones that reach the right audience and update or remove stale information.
- Confirm the public listing shows the right name, description, image, and destination URL.
- Record whether the listing is live, pending, declined, or needs an update.
- Compare referral visits and qualified sign-ups, not just the number of directories submitted to.
- Re-check paid placement and link terms if the directory changes its policy.
