Favicon checker

Check the icons declared in a public page and the conventional /favicon.ico fallback.

What this favicon checker inspects

The checker fetches public HTML, resolves icon links using the final page URL and any base declaration, and inspects up to six unique candidates. It reports HTTP status, final URL, content type, decoded raster dimensions where supported, and declared sizes.

ICO files receive a directory inspection rather than a full pixel decode. SVG files receive a markup identification without rendering. A reachable image is not proof that its appearance or Google eligibility is correct.

Why a favicon may not show

Check the resolved asset URL first. A missing file, a login redirect, or an HTML response at an image URL can break the icon. If the response is correct but the browser shows an old image, inspect browser and CDN caches.

Scope and limits

Checks read initial HTML, not JavaScript-created elements. The page response is limited to 1 MB, each icon to 512 KB, and the request has a 12-second server deadline. Manifest icons, robots rules, cached browser state, and Google's selected favicon are not checked. The submitted website URL and its icon URLs are fetched by the server.
